Support Stand Up For Tiny Lives!

February 27, 2008 by sdenterprise
Stand Up Tiny Lives Count!
During 2006, I signed the STAND UP for Tiny Lives petition, which called on the UK government to fund more research into understanding why premature birth happens.
Despite over 10,000 of you adding your voices to this call, government failed to listen.
We are therefore now stepping up our campaign and NEED YOUR HELP!
Please visit our new campaign site at http://www.standupfortinylives.org/ – to find out how you can help persuade government to tackle this common and serious problem through research.

profile your organsation or community

January 20, 2008 by sdenterprise

Promote your work for FREE

Provide us with up to 150 words about your organisation as well as your contact information (and a web site address, if you have one) and we can place it online and help get more people accessing your service on the Internet.

If you have a website already we can provide extra links to your site that help your site get higher search engine rankings on sites such as Google, Yahoo and MSN search. If you do not have a web site we can provide a place on the Internet where people can find information about your organisation or community group and the work that you do.

Many voluntary sector organisations have a poor presence on the Internet as they have sites that are poorly designed or not maintained enough, this can be costly to fix, but with our help you could get noticed online.

To get a profile on this blog please email information on your organisation or community group to scott@enterprisingenergy.com (with ‘profile’ in the subject line) and we will get your information on as soon as possible.

Posts look better with an image so if you have a logo or any other images that you use to promote your organisation then feel free to attach them to the email.

You Can Learn It – Access to information and learning

January 17, 2008 by sdenterprise

You Can Learn It – Removing barriers to learning and access to information…

Sheila Mackay is an Independent Tutor specialising in assisting people to access information. This includes information in paper and digital form. In particular Sheila is actively involved with promoting accessibility of computers with the use of adaptive technology and free or low cost software applications. Both the physical and learning abilities of an individual are taken into account.

Sheila’s involvement with tutoring began after her son was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Condition. She soon discovered that support for parents of an Autistic child, as well as a proper understanding of the condition, was patchy at best. This prompted her to learn more for herself so that she could help her son better.

At Dundee University she studied part-time -‘Language and Communication’, ‘Personal and Social Development’, ‘Early Literacy and Numeracy’ and ‘Diversity’.

The study of Diversity helped give Sheila a greater understanding of the many discrimination’s facing all types of people, and not just those classed as having a disability.

In recent years she feels that she has been lucky to be able to pursue further development opportunities. Through PUSH she had received training in ‘Disability Awareness’ and ‘Person Centred Planning with Graphic Facilitation’.

Sheila also recently received a level one certificate in Deaf/Blind Awareness training, which was sponsored by the Access Group.

Sheila stated “I am currently supported by Scotland Unltd, I am a partner with the local Literacy Partnership and I am undertaking training with AbilityNet and the Scottish Social Enterprise Academy. I am also in the process of seeking association Age Concern and I am Vice Chairperson of Perth and Kinross Access Group.”
